The people of Teleorman

A county nestled in the southern part of Romania, embody a rich tapestry of tradition, resilience, and community spirit. Known for their warmth and hospitality, the inhabitants of Teleorman maintain a strong connection to their land and heritage. Predominantly rural, the population engages heavily in agriculture, with many families having cultivated the fertile plains for generations. This deep-rooted connection to farming has fostered a culture of hard work and perseverance. Crops such as wheat, corn, and sunflowers are staples, and local farmers take pride in their ability to sustain their communities through these bountiful harvests. Teleorman's residents are also known for their vibrant cultural traditions. Despite economic challenges, parents strive to provide their children with the best possible education, often encouraging them to pursue higher studies and seek broader opportunities, both within and beyond the county's borders. The spirit of cooperation and mutual aid is strong among the people of Teleorman. Neighbors often come together to support one another, whether through communal farming activities or local initiatives aimed at improving the community's welfare. This sense of solidarity is a testament to the tight-knit nature of Teleorman's social fabric. In recent years, there has been a noticeable shift as younger generations explore opportunities in urban centers or abroad. However, many still retain a deep affection for their homeland, often returning to contribute to its development or to preserve its cultural legacy.

Merisani

It all started after my parents moved to the country side. Gradually I noticed the change, they were less stressed and more cheerful but the passage of time becomes more obvious when the distance between us is greater.

Lole

Lole is the cowboy of Merisani village. I've known him since I was little, it's always been like that. He is the kind of man who talks a lot, he can keep you busy all day, and the fact that he can't hear that well anymore helps him to ignore you if you try to change the subject.

Galateni

Galateni is the train station where I get off, from where I take a minibus or my father is waiting for me by car, to go further to Merisani. It is also the place where the weekend fair is held, and everyone is gathered from the nearby villages.

Comuna Talpa

Talpa is the place where Morometii was filmed, a film created after the work of writer Marin Preda, and which I recommend.
